Leadership is a Choice
Earlier this week I read an article from Huffington Post by Dr. Travis Bradberry.
We talk a lot about leadership at Integris – its one of the foundations of our business. So it’s always interesting to read articles written by others about what they think makes a good leader.
This article very eloquently states that you can be a leader regardless of your title within the organization. As an organization, Integris is a strong champion of leading from any level. We work with leaders throughout levels of an organization in order to make them better and stronger leaders based on The Leadership Challenge by James Kouzes and Barry Posner.
Leadership Research
Kouzes and Posner’s work is research based and very strongly supports the questions that Dr. Bradberry asks in his article. Kouzes and Posner found thirty behaviors that leaders practice to get exemplary results.
“To lead” is to have a relationship with people to achieve positive results. And that relationship can be used to influence those around you – without necessarily having any authority within the company. This article very correctly states that “leadership is about social influence, not positional power.” This is an empowering thought to those who want to be leaders and don’t know where to start.
Start where you are and influence those around you!
