Leadership Tip: Building Trust Starts With Empathy

Be unguarded and genuine with team members.

Today’s Tip:

Share personal histories with one another during your next meeting. Ask team members to go around the table and respond to a short set of questions about themselves (e.g., number of siblings, hometown, favorite hobbies, dream vacation).

Food for Thought:

Team members that talk about one another’s backgrounds and interests are more likely to be empathetic, feel more comfortable asking for help to leverage their strengths, and avoid unfair judgments about others’ behavior.
