INSPIRE A SHARED VISION
Speak with genuine conviction about the higher meaning and purpose of your work
Start your next meeting with a conversation about the impact your team has on others. How does your work benefit co-workers in other areas, external customers or even the world at large? Make the larger meaning of what you do visible.
Food for Thought:
Most people want to be part of something larger than themselves. Most people want to have an impact and make a difference in the world. Help your team recognize the good they are doing in the world. Consider the story of the “two bricklayers.” One sees her job just as “laying bricks everyday.” The other says to others, “I’m helping to build a cathedral.” Exemplary leaders speak passionately with their teams about the cathedral they are building together.
