MODEL THE WAY: Build consensus around shared values
Today’s Tip: 1: Have team members think about what values are most important to them and ask them to write down their top five personal values.
2: Have each team member share his/her values with the team, explaining what each means and why it’s important to him/her.
3: Look for commonalities that can be used to establish a list of shared values for the team.
Food for Thought: Research shows that employees have higher levels of workplace engagement when they are clear about values – both their own and those of the organization. Exemplary leaders talk about values, and they reach out to others to discover a common set of values that will bond the team.
